Production boats come gel coated, everything else is paint. Cigarette, skater, mti, outerlimits, that's ALL paint.

Gelcoat is more durable than paint and nicks/scratches easily repaired. However, gelcoat is porous, and required frequent waxing and buffing to keep it nice. Clear coated paint will always shine.

Applying gelcoat for graphics would be extremely labor intensive. Takes several coats to build up the millage required to wetsand it smooth. Gelcoat does not spray as level as paint and you will contend with a lots of orange peel texture to wetsand. There are additives to help with these issues.

Spend some time in the paint and glass forum here. Lots of threads about what you're up to.

I used gelcoat on my running surface and painted the topside.

If you had paint peeling after a year, you did something wrong.
