I've been using the 3000 grit trizact as well.

Great product! Don't let the cost per pad scare you away. Time is money!

Autozone sells the 3m 3000 and 5000 grit pads. They are outstanding for dark gelcoat inlays and tight areas where the makita isnt ideal. Leaves a surface that can be finished out by hand with minimal polishing.
