I have been looking at these renderings painters like Richie Rich, Mitchel T etc do and was wonder if anyone knows what program they use? I assume something that they can then transfer anything that needs cut to a knife plotter?
I use illustrator CS-5 for cutting but cant seem to figure out how to "paint" .

its winter . . . were all working our junk
I use Corel but most guys use AI. I do all my graphics and save in an EPS format and export to my cutting program. You can cut right out of Corel but i have not set it up yet. There is no "paint" or command that generates graphics all are done meticulously with vector elements. They are also done in layers that coincide with the painting process. Takes years to develop good line management and skills to use these programs as tools. When i look at some of the stuff coming from TAOD, BC, and the like it makes my head spin thinking of the progression of masks
i may not understand your question correctly though. All graphics are started with simple line commands and built from there. Ant shadowing or color gradients are done to represent fades and such, they are only for visual purposes and not used in the cutting process. Are you trying to add detail to graphics you are currently generating?

I am having some issues with two things.
First I have a "student" Version of AI. No issues making the vectors, and cutting, been doing that for years. But I have trying to put in colors and fades for this boat and my version doesn't seem to even want to do color fills.
I use a Wacom pad with their pencils and airbrush. I think it may be user error.
As for the steps in doing the masks of some of these,,,,,,,,,, yea I see that and think wow, that's why I like free hand airbrushing!
