Re: Top speed for a vintage 272 LS?
ok got some new numbers, today i adjusted my throttle cables to make sure i was geting full juice. then i went out and got a best of 52.8 on gps this was at the peak 4800 rpm's with the tach's functioning good. trimmed down all it would run was about 4200 rpm's. tons of drag on my drives. Think nose cones might help. trimmed out perfect is where I hit that speed. What do u guys think about more pitch? Are my drives stock I have alpha one's. I thought my boat came with TRS drives stock? Are there any options for upgrades on my drives? shorty lowers or extentions? My drives are sort of banged up on the fronts can I claen them up or sand them> Or is replacement my only option?

I don't think nose cones really help much until you're past the 70 mph mark, at least that's what I've always heard.
I've seen some tests done on Bravo 1's on boats running around 70 mph where nose cones actually slowed the boat down by 2 mph.
You should be seeing more speed. I'd run a compression check on the motors.

You don't need upgraded drives or nose cones, except that you could swap the port drive's gears so it turns left hand - that vintage Alpha will have both drives spinning clockwise. This will help lift the stern a bit. Then switch to 21P Mirage Plus props - dump the cleavers. Your boat should be able to swing those. If the motors are ok with that configuration you should see low to mid 60's.

Re: Top speed for a vintage 272 LS?
I noticed something yesterday that may have some bearing on this issue. My port side engine is a newer center bolt head design. so its been repowered with something that may have less power that the starboard side. It may also account for why it hard for me to rev match. This suck because i had plans to buy heads cams and intakes over the winter for more power> now getting the same power out of both may be a little more difficult. The main reason is the package I was going to buy is only for pre 86 chevy 350's. Dang it!
