Flush this problem for me!!!
Hi,
Can any of you guys explain to me how my portaloo works?
I have a Thetford portaloo installed in my 242ss which is plumbed in to a holding tank on the boat. How does the stinky stuff get from the portaloo up into the holding tank?
Any advice welcome.

Good question. I wonder how mine works too. I haven't used it since I don't want to be stuck with a tank that I don't know how to opperate.

Are you sure it's going into a holding tank? Most of them just have a hose from the porta-potty to a deck fitting for pumpout. That's the way I've seen 242's anyways. Follow the hose...

If it's just a porti-potti with a pumpout then the holding tank is just the bottom of the porti-potti,a small holding tank. When you hook up to a pumpout station it just sucks the base of the potti dry. Very simple and still used today as std on new Fastechs.Basically an upgraded porti-potti that you don't have to remove to empty. Doubt it has a separate tank else where in the boat cause there is nothing in place to move the waste to it.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I guess the pump out tube just goes into the bottom of the porta-potti then. I have the option of disconnecting the pump out pipe and fitting a blanking plug. However, the pump out tube is fitted to the porta-potti at the moment and also appears to have a small additional pipe connected to it. Could this lead to a breather?
Once again, many thanks.

The small hose is the vent. You can convert it back to a regular porti-potti by disconnecting both hoses and capping the outlets. Depends on whether you have ready access to a pump out station or would rather just take it out and dump it yourself.Robert
