242/hp500
I believe someone on here has or had a 242/hp 500 combo. Just wonderiing how the performance is. I friend has a 242/502/Mag and gets an honest 62 with a labbed 24' Bravo.
He just picked up an HP500 short block , fresh rebuild , heads still need doing. He's still missing some acc. like carb , intake , rockers , push rods and valve covers. Thank goodness it's still December..lotsa time left up north here

That would be a great set up 500hp in a 242 will be a fun ride, but I do believe it can handle it and be safe.

I've got some good used 500 parts ...Heads, rockers, pushrods, cam, lifters. Let me know if he's looking for a good deal.

Re: 242/hp500
The previous owner said he saw 70 with it. When I go out, the boats full of friends and fuel, so I'm not sure what the top speed is. The mid range punch is what I enjoy. My neighbor has a '82 232LS that just had the 454 rebuilt. You can really feal the difference in power between the 2 boats.

My buddy was told about 65 by the previous owner on the phone from 300 miles away. After driving 6 hours to sea trial it on Lake Ontario in October ,the truth came out. Four of us in the boat and it struggled to hit 55.
After a prop change from a 23 Mirage to a 24 labbed Bravo ,two people now got an honest 62 and picked up 6/7 mph at 4000 rpms and 5/6 mph at 3000 rpms .
