So far I've read 30-odd pages of this forum starting from the oldest forward. I'll be the first to admit now, that I'm an idiot for not getting hold of Russ sooner to look at Outlaw. Delivery issues and my demand for a swim platform aside, that was a smokin' deal.
So I looked at a '91 in person yesterday, and I think it's the cleanest used boat I've seen. The engines are original, and look like it with 1100 hrs and expected rust & corrosion, but would probably clean up easy enough. The only things I could reasonably say weren't perfect were the gauges (a tad yellow and some cracking) and what looked like corrosion on the planes and drives that may have been painted over. But wow, tons of room in front of the motors.
Looking at the hull I can see why the 311 and 292 perform almost equal with similar power: no hook on the 311.
I haven't totally given up on the 272. But now I'm curious what the difference is between a 7.4L/Bravo and a 454Magnum, besides the 35hp of course.
EDIT: It's got 454Mags with 22p Mirages I "think". I should expect around 65mph right?
Thanks,
Michael

Handfulz,
believe me go for a 311 you wont regret it. I used to own a 272 with twin 454 and it was a nightmare working on the motors, there is so much more room in the 31 and i much prefer the desin of the early nighties especially with the curved screen. when i owned my 272 i always drooled at a 311 that went past and wished i had one.
I've got just over 500hrs on my 502s and they run like a dream, so solid and reliable!!
I just been out in mine tonight, pitch dark had all the lights on and just buried the throttle, totally awesome...my 311 is like a drug to me!!
If you need any info on a 311 i'll try help you out. 311 is my limit i cant afford anything newer or higher HP, just running totally stock and it's great!!!
Good luck
Steve

Thanks Blitz! I sure am getting a lot more "support" to buy the 311 over the 272. Tell me more about yours; those 502s were stock? I've been reading old posts and came across offshoredrillin's blue 311 with 502EFIs...droool Phucking beautiful...I love EFI (my automotive background).
Damn, I'm getting too excited and I'm gonna end up paying their asking price...

The stereo has been seriously upgraded and all service is right up to date. Did you want a trailer with that ??

Ted!!! You've got my boat!!! At least share more pics! If I end up with one of these, I swear I'm painting it blue; you all can curse me for screwing with the original stuff, but that's the best looking boat on the water. If I can't buy it, I'll make it
I wish we could find out the production numbers for that color, I have to believe it's pretty rare.
Mike! You read my mind and beat me to it. I was wondering if you still had those. Got pics? If I do this deal, we'll definitely talk.
Treads, after looking at that 311 engine compartment, I'm hooked. As you read, I'm hooked on the blue. And being a Gator, I'm gonna throw in some orange
Thanks guys,
Michael

Handfulz28, I got a clean 311 on the market up here in Ohio, that I'm willing to haul to Florida. I brought it home from Ft. Myers in 1997, Its got classic Formula colors (burgundy/grey), great power(500hp 502's), updated cockpit and dash, and every tax return since 97' invested into it. It is in the OSO classifieds, and the price is very negotiable. Look it up and let me know.
