I have a 272 SR-1 with 540s that dynoed 647 hp and because of Formulas 1989 X dimension it's holding me back to the low 80s. I know somebody else with the same boat and 630 something hp and his is the same. What we could both use is two pairs of Imco 2" shorties

i agree...the duo will almost always be slower with the same power in this style of boat.

however, the extra drag from the duo is more than compensated for by the 525 vs. 415 or 425 from the merc....unless, of course you step up to the merc HP525.

to be honest, i look forward to getting a larger boat with mercs eventually. but, i've liked the 271 for many years now and it was a chance to get one faster than most. this was also a boat i wasn't interested in spending much (anything) on performance upgrades, so the limited options for the volvo didn't matter much.

anyways...have fun looking. my favorite winter sport is boat hunting.

A 271 with a Raylar 525 or 600 should get you there. That is what I was planning for my '04 271, put a new XR on just for security, but still running around with the stock 496 for now. Now its up for sale.

Wink

You guys with stock twin 496 equipped boats really need to move up to our Raylar kits. If you like or love your boat, the added 200HP plus -200lbs of weight really make a big difference in the twin engine boats, even the Fastech's. When you consider the overall cost of this upgrade versus the cost of new motors or the loss you'll take on your boat in todays market or the big jump in price you'll have for a new boat with bigger power, the best solution for those guys with 496 power is to Raylar kit your 496's. I know I am biased because Iam the guy you'll buy them from, but damn, its exactly what I would do in your position and I am a hard sell!

Good luck and have fun and be safe!

Regards,
Ray @ Raylar
