Some surprising numbers for both 502 vs 525 in the 400SS and the same with the diesels.

The gas engines don't seem too out of line . The 525s are faster and burn more fuel . I thought the best cruise would be faster with the 525s vs 415 . You really pay for that top speed .
The big surprise to me is the lower HP Volvo has a faster top speed but burns more fuel than the Yanmars .
Do you think the difference can be in set Up .

It's good to ask q's..that's how we all learn..If someone calls you a moron, take it in stride, it's just immature or their inferior complex that they think they know it all. I learn everyday.
1Bagger explained it well...but if you are able, print the data, put it side by side, and then do a cross reference on the rpms, speeds, fuel burn, and then you'll get a better grasp on these numbers. Good Luck.

Thanks Jeff for the link... I have a friend that hooked his lap top up to mytwin 502/ 415 HP 400SS when I bought it last year and those numbers are damn close, I didnt know if that was good or not compared to my 36 Concept I had previously, I just filled it up when it needed gas.... ![Big Grin](/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

We called Formula and they sent us the cut sheet for my paticular boat which we took with us on the Sea Trial, comparing MPH at which RPM etc... It was a perfect day, only 50 gallons in the boat, no canvas up 3 guys and 40 degree weather and the boat went 53.2MPH on GPS.... All summer with "all" the gear and canvas up etc, the boat will get up to 47-48MPH... But the cruise is still there at 36-37MPH...
I love this boat but want to get something faster as we have discussed in another thread, but if it doesnt sell then April 1 it will go back in the water..
Thanks again for the link..

I am half considering trading in my 2006 400ss with 496ho's (listed in classifieds) for a 2005 40pc with the yanmar 440 diesels. I am having a hard time believing the 40pc can really cruise at 1.49mpg. I think the data is wrong. Anyone know for sure?

That is not off much at all compared to other charts I have seen. That is why I kind of changed my search to diesel. I want the range and efficiency more than speed.
