271 fastech prop blowing out
I have a 2000 271 fastech with the 502 MPI. Boat has the original Bravo 26p 4 blade prop. The boat blows the prop out like crazy. Top speed with a full tank of gas is 60mph. I wanted a 75 mph boat. My question is what prop should i start with to get the boat to hook up. I want to add more power later this year with an engine rebuild and maybe a supercharger, but if i can not stop the prop blowing out, whats the point. A friend of mine has a Fountain 27 and it gets up and goes. What can i do to get the Formula to accelerate like that?? Do i really need to switch to a Fountain 29 to have a 75 MPH boat??? Thanks, jeff

I know of several 271s with same power package, they all blow out. Pain to get that hull on plane. There is some sort of idiosyncrasy with that particular hull, it just does not like to come up quick. As for speed, also right on with the 60 mph. It ought to go faster but none with that power do. I think that hull is the worst set up Formula ever did. Not knocking your boat per say, just my observations.

271 blow out
I have a 2000 271 never had a problem blowing out , 26p lab lh prop gps was 63.7 then I had the hual blue printed , 67 gps also had power flo exhust new risers - K&N filter , dont think you will see 75mph just with stock motor if you just want 75 you donot need a blower for that , THINK IF YOU JUST DO A 30 OVER , IT WILL PUT YOU AT A 509ci with a cuppel more and on's your going to be there at 75mph . also when you ran your boat the 271's like a little chop on the water and run it into the wind for alittle more bow lift more air under = more speed: ernaehrung004:

Tony,
What I was referring to regarding blowout was while getting on plane, I think thats what jwurl was referring to also. If you've never had a problem with blowout while coming out of the hole, then your boat is the exception in my experience. This has been discussed at length here in the past and Formula was consulted. They are aware of it and the only advice from them is "bring it up slowly". Many different props have been tried by many owners with the best being the original 26.
As for top end, sure the boat is capable of higher speeds. But, bone stock its a 60-62 mph boat.
Again, not bashing the 271. Two of my friends have them, nice rides once up and flat.
