Prop recommendations for 242 with 500hp
Friend of mine is upgrading the 502 mag in his 242 formula to a
slightly upgraded 500hp. Any recommendations on props? Initial
thought was a 25 mirage 3 blade or a 24 hydro 4 blade.

My experience......252SS 1993 600hp, used a 26 Bravo 4 blade, also a 27" Mirage, but required extensive rework to make it hold. A 24" Bravo may be the best choice for all around use. If you BUY rather than try them out first, it's expensive. C-P Performance will swap props at no charge, you pay for shipping. I did this about 6 times to get mine right.

Thanks Dave. My friends motor should be about the same hp and he is bravo 1.5. The motor is being set up on the dyno to run at 5000-5200 rpm.
What speed were you seeing with the 23 mirage at 5200 and 5500 rpm?
Did you have any prop blowout problems with the 23 and all that hp?

242 Prop
Hey Powerguy,
Did your friend find the right prop?
If he needs a 25 MiragePlus I have one-30 minutes test time on it-brand new w/solid hub. I could only turn it 4700. Let me know.

Craig223-
My friend just had the same problem. He tested it today
and coundn't get over 4700 rpm. Will try a 23 mirage on Thursday
to see if that will get him to 5200-5300rpm.
