Default Silent Thunder

I am looking at a 88' 272. Seems to be a nice boat at a good price. My problem is the boat does not have the Silent Thunder on it. Was this a factory option? or did all 272 come with it standard? I do not want an all loud all the time boat. I know a lot of people talk about removing the Silent Thunder but how hard would it be to put it on a boat that never had it? I would think that Formula would not offer the parts any more. Do you guys think that it is posible to find a mint used one? Any other ideas?

As far as I know the Silent Thunder system is/was an option.
I know it was on mine when it was built in '88.
Someone here had trouble with theirs (wood rot), contacted Formula and found that they could make a new one as they still had the molds, but it was very expensive.
I've seen a few for sale here in the OSO Classifieds in the past.
Maybe a fellow OSO could speak up.

As far as mounting, from what I've been told about removing one, it can't be too hard. There's only four bolts holding mine on and a large gasket between it and the transom. I don't know how the exhaust pipes are routed beyond the transom. As far as I know they just dump into a chamber in the platform.

Thanks Iggy,

Are the bolts through bolted with a plate on the inside? I would think that the exhaust ports would be located in the same place on the transom silent thunder or not. It should be easy to make a template using the silent thunder. If ant one has one please let me know what it might be worth.

Without going out and looking (it's pouring rain now) to be sure but the top ones are studs with nylock nuts and aluminum plates, the lower ones are thru bolts with nylock nuts and washers.
The exhaust is in the usual place, or appears to be.

I was re-thinking the number of attachment points. I really think it's eight places. Four across the top and four across the bottom. Two of the lower points are attached to the trailer tiedown rings with two more evenly spaced between. Can't remember the uppers.

Iggy,
I have a silent thunder platform off of my 1999 271. You could call Formula to see if it would fit.

Formula271,
I'm still at work and won't be home before they close and I can't make long distance calls from the office.
Try posting in the Formula section and address it to Boilerdaddy. He's a Formula factory rep and could possibly ask the engineers to check for you. He's helped others here in the past, myself included.

Russ,
Check this link out and maybe he still has it for sale.

DAN,
When you removed yours did you need to do anything with the tips or do they just dump right into the platform? If you did do you still have all the parts to make this work?

Sorry 'bout that, didn't realize it (the other one) was for a single.
