Formula 272 SR1
I'm purchasing a 1987 272SR1 with 454's and Bravo's. It's a one owner boat, always kept in a boat house on a lift and heated storage in the winter. I have the total history of the boat from the time it was unloaded off from the truck after it left the factory. The boat looks like it is maybe 2 or 3 years old. It is a true time capsule.
The boat has 1,000 hours on it and still runs strong. I know the engines will need to be refreshed fairly soon. Right now, the boat runs around 65mph. Are there some simple mods to get it up to 70? I'm big on making things efficient. I'm thinking some good exhaust, maybe labbing the props. These boats have been around a long time, and I know lots of guys have messed with them. Don't want to go too crazy, just have a little fun with it. Please let me know what you have done and the differences that you have seen.
Thanks in advance.

Nice boat but do your self a favor and famous last words, if you want a fast boat buy a fast boat. It can cost lots to gain that 5 mph that your looking for.. Not only that but its tight in there. Good luck.

I have a 1991 Formula 272 SR1 with BBC and wanted the same thing. Boatman302 is absolutely correct...
I took mine from 65 to 75 mph, but at significant cost.
The modifications I did:
new custom engines 510 hp on the dyno
Bravo XZ Drives
Bravo I 28 pitch props
And to control all this new power/speed:
external hydraulic steering
K-Planes (not bennet tabs)
I can do 70 mph all day, but to get to 75 mph, two people and <1/4 tank of gas

Thanks for the response. This is exactly what I am looking for.
