Big power in Fastechs
Not out to bust your chops but Ive often wondered why Formula never has made an all out Poker Run version of their Fastec hull, like one with 900s and number 6s. Does anyone know of anyone who has put some real big power on say a 382 or some tripple blower motors in a 412 or the like? Its not like Formula is too small of a company or doesnt do any racing........doug

I asked Scott Porter this very question once and he said that people have priced out 382s with 900 SCs but went more conservative because of the price. I believe a 900SC/#6 package retail at $90,000 a piece. The new 1050SC/#6 package is $102,000 per side.
I also asked about staggered set-ups in the 419 and he said he felt the boat handled best with triples. The biggest horsepower that I've read about is a 382 with TCM 800s and a 419 with triple 700 Lingenfelters. I've also seen an old 402 SR1 with twin turbo charged 850s that did 94 mph.

I am curious about the same> I have a 382 with 575's and it does about 81 to 82 MPH. Of course I would like to go faster but don't know if a 382 would handle with much more power. I have heard of one guy up north with a 100 MPH 382 or 353 and I heard that it was a handfull.

Im just surprised the Porter family doesnt make an all out Poker Runner with like 900s and 6s and take it around to the big Poker Runs to kind of answer to the all out offerings from Outerlimits and Fountain and others.

My buddy has the 2001 382 with TCM 800's and Platinum XR drives. The boat has hit 101 on exceptional days but will always hit 99.
Above 95 you need to stay on your toes for chine walking but other than that it is rock solid

Did you get your Talon yet? Does your buddy still have the 382 Fastect that does 99 Mph? Has he had any problems with drives?
I just lost my first drive yesterday off Long Beach. Ran my nephew on a practice speed ski run to Catalina, then did a short speed run and lost a drive. Boat only has 67 hrs on it of which only 10 in the ocean. I have XR drives and I'm trying to decide whether to fix or upgrade to Imco, B max of TCM? Any input?
Why did you sell your Formula for a Talon? What power and drives does your Talon have.

No I don't have the Talon yet, I still need to sell the Formula. The reason for the sale of the Formula is a long story but to sum it up I'd say that our boating needs had changed and I wanted to go faster with stock Merc power. After alot of searching I came across the 377 Talon, it has a decent cabin and runs 115mph on stock 575's with intercoolers and Bmax drives.
The Teague Platinum XR's were trouble at first due to a isolation dampner that should have been installed with the extension boxes. Because there was no dampner, all the engine vibration was being transmitted to the drives. Since the install of these dampners the problems have gone away and the drives have been solid behind the TCM 800's.
You will see this boat at the Catalina Ski Race in the Mens Open Class. The boats name is Blown Away.
I had two blown Bravo One drives on my 382 Formula with HP500EFI motors, I sent them to Teague. They came back as Teague Platinum XZ drives. No more problems

I know this is not "real big" horsepower, but my 97 312 runs in the 85 gps range with 454 Mag MPI's on Procharged steroids! It does start to get touchy at over 85 though.....slight chine walk. My old 252SS Formula did that at 75 mph.... bigger is better....
