Default 382 Engine room?

How much space is in the front of the engines before the back of the seat? If I were to get a Generator would it take away from this space? I have not seen one yet up close and all the pictures I can find don't really show. I am concerned about changing plugs and general maintenance.

With the new financing incentives I am thinking of going new. My wife really wants a 400SS but I think she is swaying some

I am going to the dealer on Sat to talk over a deal and look at one.

Thanks

The generator on my 2000 382 partially occupies a cutout in the engine room bulkhead. When you lift the rear seat up you can access the port side of the generator. The generator is mounted all the way forward in the engine room and is placed right in the middle. The access under the seat requires a box panel to be removed, this box takes alot of room from under seat.

My opinion is to by the new 400ss or a new 382 if you can afford it. Generator installation can be a huge headache.

Why do you want a generator? For AC? I have had 14 boats and seldom go into the cabin.

I need t run the AC occasionally when not docked. I have a medical condition and the extreme heat will aggravate my symptoms. It's very relieving to know I have a place to cool down if I have too.

Thanks Nort for the Pict! Is that the Freshwater holding tank or is it for the gen?

The holding tank pictured is not the freshwater tank at all, it is the holding tank for the VacuFlush head system.

The generator draws its cooling water from a through hull fitting in the bottom of the boat. The generator has an enclosed cooling system. The cooling water is passed thru a heat exchanger then dumped out thru the exhaust.

I know nort is a busy guy, so I thought I'd help him out here

Thanks, Looks kind of cramped! Without the holding tank it looks reasonable.

It is. I have just the porta-pottie/pumpout system in mine, and the genny is only a slight headache when working around the very front of the engines (sea strainers, etc. I don't use it that often, but it's a great piece of mind, and makes you very popular on those really hot days in the cove when everyone's all rafted up and overheated.
