What do you think caused it to look like that?

I would assume bumping against a dock and Formula not painting under the rubrail causing an adhesion problem in that area. I'll eventually have the colors photo matched by ppg and fix her up a tad but for now Ii'm gonna focus on making sure the boat's reliable. Went out last weekend for the maiden voyage and all was good so far. One weak battery that i'm gonna change this week but other than that i'm pretty happy with the boat

Thats common when Formula painted thru the rub rail like that doesn't take much to chip the paint like he said mayb e a bump on rail, not even enough to mark the rubrail up either, just a weak spot in the paint on the joint

PhantomChaos is implying that your deck to hull joint may be coming loose and that the problem may be more than cosmetic. It’s worth a look, but it could also be caused by what 88242LS said. Formula paints the rub rail along with the deck and hull so some chipping is inevitable.

Ya, the rub rails nice and tight along with the deck to hull joint. After 16 years out in the sun a simple pressure wash could probably be enough to blow that area loose if it wasn't caused by bumping into the dock. Most likely the way they painted the stripes right over the rub rail the paint was probably connected to the deck with paint until this happened. All it would take is a little flex from bumping the dock or some high pressure water getting underneathe the area
