I live at the mouth of St.Clair river. There was a nasty south wind off lake Huron. I left my slip down river, hedding into the lake. The river had 4 and 5 footers at its narrowist point, just before it opens into the lake. There where two 60ft crusers going out into the lake and one loaded iron orr tanker coming down river. I passed one of the crusers at about 20 mph, huge wake but no problem. Went to pass the second cruser, got ontop of his wake about 40 ft behind him and there it was! A hugh vortex in the river, approx 30 ft across and 12 to 14 ft deep caused by the tanker and the crusers. I went into this freeken hole, started to come out when all hell broke. The nose of my boat stuck into the side of the hole sending a 3 ft wave over my boat almost ripping me from the wheel. It went from hot and sunny to wet and dark in a second. My windshield exploded covering me in thousands of cuts. I was head to toe in blood, it looked worse than it was due to the water. Went out into the lake, cleaned up, strapped what was left of my windshield down and had many "BEERS." From what I was told, my boat looked like a submarine shooting out of the water. Too cool, I wish someone had video. Gotta love Formulas, if I was in my old 24 footer I would of gone to the bottom. Life is short, play hard but wear your life jacket in snotty conditions. I didn't but was lucky. I wear it now!!!

I know a guy around here that stuffed his 38 Formula. He said he wasn't going fast, maybe 40 with a following sea coming through a pass. It stuffed, shattered his windsheild and knocked him out. He said luckily it was cool that day and they all had windbreakers on otherwise they would have been shredded worse than they were.
