Default Garmin 176c

Anyone have a 176c? If so, is it wired to the electrical or do you use a ciggy adapter or batteries? Where is it mounted? Do you have pictures? If so, will you post them? Thoughts?

I have been eyeballing that unit for quite a while. I was going to break down and probably buy it this season, but now they have just released the 276! It's basically an updated 176 with a better screen, supports external NMEA sources for water depth, water temperature, and water speed, and has a built-in basemap and auto routing to provide you with turn-by-turn directions when on land.

Check it out:

I know . . . newer = mo' better. However, the 176c seems like a bargain with the rebate and all.

I have the 176c mounted on my dash just to the left of my compass, but not too close as to affect it. It's not hard wired, uses the cig outlet. I'd post a pic, but don't know how, sorry. Oh, I have the 292.

I just bought a 176C for my 292 last week, but have not mounted it yet. I'm going through the same thing trying to determine where to put it. I may move the depth gauge down near the trim switch and install the 176C, in it's place, on the right side of the instrument panel.

first.offshore- I would like to see some pics of that install.

live wire II- I take it you screwed it into the dash? Any issues (like cracking, etc.?)

I am going to "hard-wire" whatever I get. I would love to flush mount a 182c, but I don't believe I have the room.

No problems. Just pre drill for the small screws. Small holes should be easy to patch if, and when i remove it. Maybe I'll try to past a pic.

I think I am going to get a 176c and I noticed in one of the catologs a bean bag mount so you don't have to drill. I think right now it is a good deal for the money. I am goin to try the bean bag mount, I think it will work good for the harbors and it will be easily removable for go fast applications. It is also blue chart compatible from what I have read, buy a Garmin chip ( about 150 dollars) and you have a chart plotter?
