Fuel tank sender F223
The VDO fuel tank sender on my 88 223 is pretty well crapped out, it had been getting stuck alot, and on my last cleaning attempt I broke one of the float wires.
Its the tube type sender, 8 11/16" tall with 82/8/21 stamped on the top, I actually had the VDO catalog from 1988 and found the part number to be 224-061. (why the part number isn't on the part I'll never understand) I found it online for about $75, but was told 2-3 weeks before I could get it.
I think this is a 90-0 Ohm sending unit, any chance I could pick one up in an automobile flavor? or do I have one of those bass-ackwards VDO gauges that is different than everything else?

Well I cleaned the sender today and I was reassembling everything the float wire broke.
But I did get the numbers off the unit: 82 5 137 which translates to VDO part number 224 064.

If you're lucky enough to have VDO guage you are STUCK using VDO sender. The Gaffrig won't work with VDO. They used non-standard ohms range and even Gaffrig with special wiring will not work.
Been there/lost that battle and just got correct ohm sender.

I upgraded my entire dash from VDO to Faria for this reason, and I also got the Hardin Marine Sender (which has no float). It works great! (Plus I hated the VDO 'look'.
The guage is only a guide. Do yourself a favor and buy a fuel flowmeter. They are bal$$ on accurate and don't usually break.

Upgrading an entire dash sounds expensive.
I wish I could find a junkyard for mid-80s - early 90s Formulas.

These guys don't stock part 224 064 (as it is out of production), so I ordered 224 063 ($77.53), which is a little shorter (12 1/4 vs 13 7/16). From what I understand the gauge will always read a bit low...I guess a pessimistic fuel gauge is better than an optomistic fuel gauge.
