Very nice. Sounds like it is in good shape for a boat of its age. Excellent post on the detail of your trip.

I have always liked the 336. It seems like a much bigger boat inside than the 33' would indicate.

I do agree with your trailer comments.....looks kind of rough.

Thanks....yes, I think it is a big 33' boat. There is room in the engine compartment to stand, squat, or sit in front of the engines. The sofa in the cabin can easily accommodate 6, and the cockpit can seat 6 comfortably...a few more if some don't mind standing and holding on...

Exclamation Re: Report on trip to see 336

Great looking boat!
Sounds like your surveyor did a good job.
After the better driver took over, how many RPMs did you see at W.O.T.?
If these are EFI motors did he scan for fault codes?

I think the compression test would have been a waste of money if the engines pulled together and got close to 5,000 RPM.

Put some 15W-40 Royal Purple in the crankcases and enjoy your new boat.

Both engines were just over 5000 RPM at WOT, and got the boat to 71.5 mph.

They are EFI engines, but the surveyor did not have the tool. I'm going to ask the service dept. at the dealer to pull the codes for me.

I'm still on the fence as to whether to do a compression test, since I'm going to rebuild in a year or two anyway. It probably is money better spent elsewhere.

Ed, thanks for the feedback!

Thumbs up Re: Report on trip to see 336

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I have been looking in the wrong places for this thread. Found it accidentally!

If those engines were down on compression, I doubt you'd have seen the performance you did. Save your dough for the cosmetics she needs.

Formula is a great boat with a devoted following. My first new boat sale as a new employee at Everglades Marina was a 1987 357 SR-1 with 420s and TRS.

The guy kept the boat for 8 years it was such a sweet boat.

Barry - When I bought my 336 last year the silent thunder box leaked and rattled at idle....If you look around you will notice that a lot of people have taken them off for those same reasons, even on newer model Formulas. I removed mine and first just put rubber flappers on the existing transom tips. The boat was a lot louder. Decided that I wanted mufflers so then installed HPI transom mount mufflers. The mufflers reduced the noise to a similar level as the silent thunder but without leaks, rattles, or melted gaskets and it took the weight of that box off the stern of the boat.
