Replacing throttle and shift levers for Bravo 1
Has anyone had experience replacing or changing the standard
shift levers on the older bravo-1's such as the ones on the f-311's? It just seems that the forward and reverse levers are too short. The starboard shifts fine but the port side is a little stubborn, on my boat. Longer levers would help a great deal. Is it difficult to change these out? I would appreciate anybody's experiences...

they are no big deal to change but stiff shifting is a sign of a problem, more often than not it is a corroded shift cable, to check it yank your drive off and check for water in the shift cavity if there is the cables gotta go and you need some special tools to adjust it properly.

Re: Replacing throttle and shift levers for Bravo 1
Hillbilly24,
Thanks for your response. My cable may be bad. I had the drives and cables serviced by a pretty reputable mechanic, early last year. The gentlman claimed that the cables were pretty good, and further claimed that the port side generally requires more effort shifting since the prop rotation is reversed on that drive. Pehaps that is not the case. Dou you find that both sided require about the same effort? How much are the shift cables?
Thanks,
Doug

I have to agree with the hilbilly on this one. There is a problem somewhere either in the cable or in the drive itself. You should look for this and correct the cause before changing out your controls.
I am currently in the process of replacing my Keikheiffers with the Livorsi billet race controls. Already have the Keik's sold!
