Default VHF antenna mounting

Fellow ReggieHeads (Reggheads).... Please give me your opinion

I want to install a fix mounted VHF radio in my 38 Fountain but am struggeling with where and how to mount the antenna. I have an fiberglass arch and considered putting on a 3-4 ft sail boat type with a quick connect that I can easily remove and store, Just looking for some thoughts and experiences.... I fear mounting something that is going to be a major eye sore and also a headache when running at speed.

Please let me know what you have done and/or seen. Any pics you have would be appreciated also. Thanks for your responses in advance.

I chose to mount a stainless steel antennae instead of a fiberglass whip antennae. I mounted it to the top of one of my bimini supports and remove the steel whip when I don't plan on using it. It's out of the way and unobtrusive, you can't even see it on the boat unless you're looking since it's so thin. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

I mounted mine on a flat spot just behind the base of my reverse arch. I have an 8' smooth fiberglass antenna on an adjustable base. It does not look bad and can be folded back to run parallel the the rail around my sun pad and is hardly noticeable. Reception is much better than those small whips.

This sounds like the idea I had for mounting mine, I did purchase the small stainless steel one and was going to mount it on my arch but was not sure how I would take it on and off. When you say remove the whip, I assume you are doing just that but I can not figure out how to detach that piece (maybe I have the wrong antenna).

falktr - any chance you can email me a picture of where you mounted it behind you arch?

I "remove the whip" by unscrewing the antennae from it's base.
