I have seen many offshore boats, including Fountains, that have what appears to be a water pump tell tale (similar to an outboard) that discharges a stream of water at the aft side(s) of the boat. Does anyone have this system and if so how is it plumbed? Like most Fountains, mine has water pressure gauges but they do not indicate any pressure at idle or lower rpm...a visable indication would be nice.

I think what your seeing is that certain hi perf boats have to much
water pressure. The concern is blowing head gaskets so they plum
a relief and blow the water out the side. You should see some water
pressure at a idle, about 2 lbs. On Fountains they hook the hose to
a fitting in the bottom of the block. Sometimes it gets full of dirt.Remove
the hose & shove a drill bit thru the fitting to clean it out. You may have
a weak impeller. On mine I had max water pressue at about 8-10 lbs
with no overheating problems. Then I lost an impeller & replaced it. I now
have 20lbs.

You may also be seeing the discharge from a boat with blower motors that are intercooled. The water is dumped out on the side or the back where you can visually check it to make sure it doesnt get blocked up.

That explains it, I thought the amount of water being discharged was a bit much. Oh well...shows how much I don't know! Thanks guys...epeek, I too have 20# at WOT and 15# at 3500 RPM, I am told that is about right. I may well have the 02# at idle, I will have a closer look next time I splash.
Thanks again all...
