Wife and I just P/U our first Fountain this year,2004 29 ft. Well the bug has already hit us. I was looking at a 35 Light w 500 EFI's, called the insurance Co and they said it would be about 3600 for a year!!?? Sounded really high since we are only paying 1150 for the 29. I then asked about a 2001 38 Light with the same ponies and he said about 1600 for a year, about a 4-5 hundred increase. Is this true or is he messed up on the quotes? What would the deal be for such a huge gap in the overall price differences? Love to have the 38 but not sure if I want to have to trailer it. I guess I'll have to post the trailering questions somewhere else.
Any info would be great.
Thanks
Eugene

Quote doesn't sound right. My 35 with blowers is 2576.Don't let trailer be an issue if you want the 38 get it. But if were you do your boating is not that rougth like atlantic ocean 35 is faster with same power and has a closet that the 38 dosn,t have.Welcome to the Fountain family.

Qoutes don't sound messed up to me and here's why. No one except Markel or Ace American will take a 35 with 500's. Progressive will take a 38 with 500's but nothing above 496HO's for the 35. HUGE difference in premiums between Progressive and the "high" performance insurance companies. We saw the same thing when we were looking and that is the explanation we received. Progressive would take a 353 Fastech with 500's and the premium was around 1200 - 1500 per year. Progressive would take a 38 Lightning with 500's and the premiums were about the same. Progressive would take a 35 lightning with 425 horsepower, max, and the premium was 1200'ish. 425 hp was the highest Progressive would go - beyond that, we would have had to go to Total Dollar, Worldwide, or other, and all of them were in the 3000+ range. All of the boats were were looking at were in the same price range (we were using upper limit on $$$ as our main criteria on the boats - you can get a 38 Lightning for nearly the same price as a 35 Lightning, from the shopping we had done). 353 Forumulas seem to cost more

Had the same experience as bob t when shopping 35's and 38's last winter. Could only go 496's with 35', but 500's with 38' and still get "reasonable" insurance rates. I think it has to do with the top speed on the 35' with 500's. I wound up with a used 38' but I don't think you can go wrong with either.
