thanks for reply, my buddy has a 95 47 lightning with wrap around windshield etc., and I really like that you can walk around the windshield than hop over windshield to get on bow.I am thinking about buying this 38 and second guessing it because of that.Do you know when the lightning was built. I realize the newer X have a walk around but only have single step.

THE FOUNTAIN (LIGHTNING) Hull was originaly the 10 and 12 meter Executioner.. and was named the lightning and stayed that way till late 99 when the first 38 lightning came out of the mold. at that time the executioner hull was renamed the classic deck the ex/lightning has always maintained that (Walkaround ). the 38 fever is a older mold and started back in 88 some as ICBMs in 8.8,meter32 foot and 38 and has never had a walkaround..the teltail is the lightnings have in one way or another had two features. forward faceing vents (Air intakes) and the walkaround
hope this helps

JMPH, I would suggest that you get into the cockpit of both boats before deciding. I had a 35 ex and was ruined on it the first time I got into the cockpit of a 38 Fever - the extra room is considerable over the lightnings.
Personally, I would much rather go thru one of the hatches to get to the bow than hang over the side. But to each his own. The never 38 lightnings (2002 and newer I believe) have the bigger steps and are faster, but they are much more prone to spinning in a turn.
It's give and take on both sides. Check them both out before you decide is my advice.
