Cool Re: Installed -2 Imco Shorties on a 38 Fever, Picked up 5 mph AT LEAST

I have a 1998 38 Fever. I also installed imco 2" shorties last year picked up approx. 4 mph but had to space down due to high slip at cruise and sloppy handling in rough water. The higher you go the flatter your boat runs. Too flat makes for a poor handling boat. High slip equates to no grip! My stock x dimension was 16-3/4". I am spacing down further this week and hope to test weather permitting.

did you try 5 blade props? Did you have any trouble getting on plane when you switched to the shorties?

Well here is my info for reference....
1993 non step 42'... 34" centers with a 16" XD, I went to neutral offset 12" extension boxes (IMCO's) and -2 IMCO lowers on 1.3 Bmax uppers spinning, stock at the moment, 26" Bravo1's.
My numbers show a 10% slip and it just slightly cavitates getting up on plain in rougher waters...so I'm thinking Its right there in the sweet spot.
Want to see about +4 to 5mph out of a lab job with a pulley bump from 4% to 6% overdriven....so that means 95mph or bust

Racinfever, what kind and size props are you running. Can you also measure the distance from the bottom of the transom plate to the notch? I am thinking that your '98 is the same hull and x-dim as my '00 Lightning. A flat ruler should fit behind the trim line distribution block. - thanks in advance

i am in the marine business , i have tried every 4&5 blade that mercury & hydromotive made , when your prop is up high the only positive help is diamiter , caution ! diamiter ls like adding the fifth & six blade causing stern lift. it;s a balancing act trying to raise prop height for speed but still leverage the boat for effichentcy .if your 38 fountain is not 2001 &up your ideal X is about 173/4 if you have a newer boat you can space down & have a better running boat . Fountain put there boats in to the high slip mode trying sell more speed. if you buy a new boat and it comes with high slip your not getting what you paid for , DO THE MATH !
My transom plate is 5 '' above the notch.
