454 engine/blower help
i have an 89 lightning with two 454's in it, turns out they popped the frost plugs when the last owner had it, i pulled both engines, and was going to go through them cause they had 427 hours on them, was also gonna add the weiand 256 blowers, problem is, i dont know much about boats at all, this is my first project, what should i do as far as freshening up the engines? compression? cam? carb? stock heads decent? a guy in town has a set of new 525 heads that he removed from his boat to upgrade, are those a good head for me to upgrade to at a good deal? or should i just keep stock ones?
Thanks for ANY help.

as for the 525 heads i dont think they ll work. different bolt pattern, they also have different exhaust i believe.
a client of mine has a pair of 454's with a good valve and bowl job, good cam with out too much over lap, bout 8 1/2 :1. runs a dominator over a b&m with an intercooler. the engines makr a stout 700 h.p on the dynowith about 5-6 psi of boost.
if youd like give me a call maybe i can help you out.

If you don't know much about the motors , I would take them to a good engine builder and let them freshen them and run them. It is hard to make your boat or mine run fast or out front when you can buy a brand new 35 that will run over 100 on pump gas. I have spent lots of money playing with my blower motors , But I do most of my own work and must love taking them apart. But Good luck with what ever you decide.
