HP500EFI Belt adjustment
I have 2000 HP500EFI's in my 35 Lightning Classic. It sounds like there is a bearing squeling in my starboard engine, perhaps the idler pulley or maybe an alternator bearing. How do you release the tension on the belt to remove it, so I can check to find out where the noise is comming from? I looked at all of the accessories, but don't see any adjustment on any of them. I know I must be missing something.
TIA
David

You may try to find the sound you hear with the engin running some times you can hear it better with a screwdriver next to where the bearings are. place a long screwdriver handle at your ear and the other end on bearings next to the pullys on all the pumps, alt. and idler pully too.

I got the belt off, worked like a champ. I think my noise is the bearing in the water pump (the GM factory circulating pump). It feels rough and had been leaking a bit. I am going to buy two new MerCruiser pumps tomorrow and change them on both engines. There are 220 hours on the engines now anyway. The idler pulley feels smoothe as silk.
Thanks,
David
