usually yes but not in the case I witnessed, but thenagain like JW said...there´s a lot of variable 200rpm is easily within the tolerance...add Trim indicator tolerance errors to that and it might be the engines still run ok..

I posted this same message on the General Q & A section and got one short response. I guess the Fountain family is a pretty close knit bunch - Thanks a ton!

Good mechanics can feel the engines reach sync. If conditions are right you feel the boat, its vibs and the sounds of the engine. 3500 or 4000 rpm is a good place to start. When you feel and hear the sweet spot your tachs should match, that is in a perfect world. I do not have to read my tachs to know where I am in the RPM world. As far as perfection, use a
tach setting device that diesels use. A photo strip is taped to the harmonic balancer and a emitter is temp affixed to the engine> it counts the actual shaft rotations. we use this to set fuel flow meter computers.

Mine used to be dead nuts also. 2 yrs ago I took the gauges out and shifter/throttles out for updating. Since reinstalled, my levers are off a some too. Just never got around to readjusting the linkage. I listen for the WA WA sound for the in sync tone.
