Thats was intressting i trim out my drives to 9 at WOT. Maybe it depens there is a little hook on the padkeel at the transom ?
A attach some piture on my boat. A have rebild it this summer with a new paint and upgrade the motor. Now it takes less fuel and get approks 540 hp. (Changes the carburetor to a Holley 800 dp.)

Thats a clean boat. I like the black. Trim it up to 9!!!???? Your indicator might be messed up. My boat loses speed past 4, and begins to feel very loose past 5. I dont ever really go past 3.5 or 4.

At 5000 RPM's you are main lining the fuel to your motor, she'll burn it up. You need to find it's 'sweet' spot, probably around 3000 to 3500 RPM's for maxium fuel usage.
And like they said, drop your drive, and tabs to start off, then about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle till she comes over, then adjust accordingly.
