Default 38 Fever Info

With the great deals out there right now I'm considering upgrading from my 27 Fever to a 38 in the near future. Can anyone chime in with what years are the better years for hull design and what type of power/drives is giving what type of speed?

I'm looking to go offshore here on the west coast and hit our inland lakes. I was told that the 38 is far better than the 35, much like the 29 is better than the 27 for speed/ride.

Thanks for any input and helping me build my purchase criteria.

I'm considering a clean 2000 38 Fever with 575's. What kind of maintenance can I expect to be comming up soon with that many hours on the 575's.

Speed expectations should be about 85 or so? Thoughts?

head gaskets, possibly new seals for the blower, and valve train refresh, depending on hours and use/abuse. Head gaskets were the weak link in the earlier 575's. Later one's had good cometic head gaskets, from what I read, but they also had the B&M/Holley Weiand blowers which were known to toss their sealed back bearings. The 575 I had in one of my 29's ran fine, and sounded really good from about 4000 rpm and up .

Can't go wrong with this Fever. Probably the nicest one out there. I love this boat and it is rock solid in the rough. Pm me if you have interest.

There was a 38 Fever with Arnersons on eBay not long ago - threw a mean tail. If you are going stock, try to get 500EFI's over the cab motors. They run much better and come with CMI. You can get -2 shorties to pick up 2-3 mph on top. South Austin Marine has a very clean 2000 38' Lightning with a race fairing, EFI's, IMCO shorties and AC. Super clean boat.
