Assuming 10% slip, which would be WAY low for a high X Vee hull, and a 1.5 drive ratio puts the engine rpms at 5650. An HP525 EFI can't get there in stock form. 
Is the prop a 28P, by chance?
Also, the 29 Fountain will start to chine walk in the mid 80 mph range. Obviously more horsepower, and dropping the tabs a little, will offset that, somewhat. Not sure about the 2004 and up models, but late 90's models with the larger step, and up to 2003 chine walk around 84'ish mph (gps).

We like a kinda loose ride over here.. just wip the wheel back in fourth.. We try not to drag anything for the top end stuff.

My thinking is, is it cost effective (worth it) to bolt on a whipple? I don't want to spend $5,000 and gain 1 or 2 mph. From the looks of things here I can bolt a whipple on my fresh engine, bring that engine to a conservative 700ish RPM which would put me in the mid-high 80 range which is where I would LOVE to REALISTICALLY be. I'd imagine the hull could handle 100mph, but is it worth it to spend the money to get a 2000 29 Fountain to the 100mph mark, not for me. Thanks for the advise everybody!

It is an early-mapped, rich, sooty transom HP525 but it fuggin' rocks.
My buddy Chewspit666 has the same late production 2003 & they run together at 80 mph.
You asked for consistency so I stated 80 mph however; by myself, empty tank, perfect chop, running current, I have seen this:

You mention percentage of slip. Is it really so important to have low slip? On a few of my other boats, they run fastest with high engine (on jack plate) and much pitch and a bit more slip. The only thing that matters in my opinion is that the boat goes FAST and is stable and "tracks" well.... Or have I missed something here??? Just asking. Fountain owners do care about performance ;-)
By the way, how far is the prop shaft center below the pad on your 29? What is the trim indicator showing when you reach your peak speed?

Thanks, I guess I lucked out...
I ordered the boat direct from Fountain in spring 2003 - I received it in Sept 2003.
It was the first of the 2004 series.
The factory test report shows 81 mph with the 26P.
I don't get any WOT alarms unless it airs out too far, which tells me I need to watch my water better.
I don't know about "X" dimension but to get that speed I run the drive at 4.5 to 5 on the indicator.
Normally just cruising at 45 mph with the wife & kids I keep the drive at around 3 - 3.5 on the indicator.

My boat starts to chine walk a little bit at like 65+ if the tabs are all the way up, so I run with my tabs consistently at 3.5 unless the water is really bad and I need to trim down a little more. When I am running my boat for top end, I run with the drive at 4.5/5 and keep the tabs at 3.5.
Another question I had about slip, is how much make the 29's work best. My slip #'s are below 10% which is really good, but I wonder if the prop is a little too "sticky" to get the RPM's above 5k to get more top end. Right now my top end numbers are in the 4900 RPM and 70 on GPS. I really want those numbers closer to 75 with the best prop.
