Why is it nessesray to replace your impellers so often.?

I have a bravo 1. I ran clamp on's, when I was a kid, for years and never had one go bad. As long as you keep it wet.

Do these outdrives have impellers the just up and quit ? or do they fall apart and pieces go into the cooling system? Not sure on this one, anyone w experience would be greatly appreciated..

Bravo 1's don't have impellers in them. The sea water pumps are on the motors.

I change mine every spring, but we have long lay ups here.

For me it is just a standard item that I do, so I don't have to worry all summer about it.

Bravos will drain back over time and many times will start slightly dry during normal usage, especially if you trailer. This tends to harden the impeller over time and make it come apart. If you do them once every 1-2 years you will not have to spend several hours backflushing your cooling system

Oh, I believe in changing them every spring now. I was skeptical at first. Pulled the raw water pump off of my 525efi about a month ago and there was nothing but pieces and a hub left. Cheap insurance to replace the impellar, housing and backing plate annually!!!

That's what I do. I mean why not, if it is the cost of the impeller I would have to rethink my hobby

Do you travel long distance....ever been towed for 2-3 hours in 95 degree weather? We would travel 70-80 miles each way from the trailer or more some weekends. IMO: The cost of the impeller is worth knowing that is one thing that is less likely to be a problem.

We travel miles and miles from the launch at Mead....And on the ocean, Thanks. Now I just have to locate it...Is there anything I should or could know about changining her??

Mine last 2 yrs. At 2 1/2 yrs, 1 will let go, like clock works.
I know of several people with Alphas and for some reason, those impellor last several yrs.

Possibly th?e Bravos impellors vanes are in more of bind than the alphas??

Or us Alpha people just know how to stay in the water and run our boats better!
