Props for 29 Twin 350s (Need more Speed)
Just wondering what props all you owners of 29's with twin 350's are running. Also what RPM and MPH are you running at cruising and WOT with your respective props. I'm trying to get more speed without messing with the engines. What have you guys tried? Those of you that have messed with your engines, what have you done?

WHOOOOOHOOOOO!!! I knew if I hung in there long enough it would happen!!! Another 29 with twin sbc's!! I see yours is a 2002, unfourtunatley Im running a non step 89 with 270 hp carburated 350s and alphas, I see about 64 at 4700 on the stock speedo but then I was on a Poker Run last year and running with a guy with a 28 Nordic with all Gaffrig everything and he said we were doing 68 to 70......maybe I'll go with that!!( i know, GPS) Anyway Im running Merc stainless 4816320A423P props. What are you seeing? I take it you have Bravo's? and the 300hp FI motors? And........ah......as far as I know Im the only person with a twinn small block 29 on the board, unless there are some lurkers out there that arn't posting. Thanks for making my day and welcome to the board!!!!.......Doug

Twinn29,
You've got it right, Bravo's and 300HP FI's. My gafrig reads 68-69 on low fuel at about 4900 RPM. However, last week I was in a poker run and was the slowest boat out there with a gafrig reading of 66 MPH. There was another 29 twin small block out there and he slowly moved passed me. Afterwards he said the GPS read 66.4 MPH. Right now everything is stock, but I'm putting new props on (not sure what size yet) and I'm thinking of taking out the k-plane stops. I've read on here that some people have picked up speed that way.

P.S. No trouble around the docks!!!

Lefty,
What are your rpm's with the 26's? Where is the rev limiter set on those small blocks? I'm running bravo1's on my 35. I have 26p that had a 1/4-inch taken out of the blade so they are now the equivalent of a 25p. If the 24p is to small have your 26 worked. Make sure your prop guy calls merc if he doesn’t have the templates. The cup stays exactly the same so they’re a lot easier to fix if you ding them. To get the same rpm out of the hydros as the Bravo's I use a 24p. The Hydro's were faster by a couple mph but didn't bite as good and the midrange suffered.
I know how you feel about being slow at Poker runs. I have 365 Mags and only run 72mph on GPS. I plan to fix that next season.
Happy boating,
Dan

twin 29 ,I have a 1991 29 no sbc though. have the need for speed, are you the guy that wanted to put hp500s in your fountain? I put a set of 2001 350 vortic heads and a aluminum intake on a small block last summer these heads woke this motor up like you can not believe . we did no carb changes or cam, the owner loves the change and the cost if you can do it your self is very cheap.
