It goes 90. Finally, I got a return email stating this. The motors must be tired or it's not propped right.
There is an 01 35, 90 miles from me and the guy selling it claims 90. but it has 30 bravo props 500 efi's and xz drives. I think he is high.
I'm still more into the 38. Maybe more engine work and prop work, x dimention., would get it to 98 mph. I would like to hear this boat running at idle. That would be a buying motivator for me.

Dry weight on a 38 Lightning is 9800. A staggered 525 boat will run in the neighborhood of 96, Merc 700's with sixes around 110-115. This one should be high 90's to 100, if the HP is near close to right. The side by side will give up some speed to the full staggered set up.

The "R" in the serial number says it was a Race designated boat. I looked at the pictures and saw the "no frills" interior and was going to ask about the HIN, but no need burst anyone's bubble or excitement . There was 35 twin step somewhere around LOTO named "Miss Nette" that was an "R" designated hull, also. It had a "modified" cabin, where they took the boat back to the factory and put bench seats in it instead of the regular cuddy interior, since it originally left the factory without any real interior. That 35's interior was not done anything close to what yours looks like (the 35 's interior looked like chit). Your's looks very nice and if you don't "need" the dinette, I would be happy with the bench seats. Do you know, was your 38 originally raced (without an interior), or just ordered as an "R" designated boat to gain some more speed?

As far as my boat. I would think a race boat would not come with the standard paint graphic design down the side. I could be wrong. I called Legend and got the number of the guy that traded it in on a 42 in 06-07. He didn't return my call. That is where the trail went cold for me on history.
As far as it being raced; that would be a strange irony. My 27 was raced before I got it. And Pfaff, Jennings and Rankin used to see it race at Long beach when they were racing the Penzoil Scarab 3.

The 35 was a 2001 or 2002 and had 500 EFI's if I remember correctly. It was for sale in the Powerboat Magazine classifieds for a really long time, several years ago, and then I saw it on boattrader, and a couple of other places, and then maybe a year ago it was for sale again on one of the boat sites.
