Default Trailer winch

Looking to replace my trailer winch. have a 29 with twins the weight on it is like 7000lbs dry, bunks on the trailer.

Winch currently which looks to be original says max capacity of 2800lbs. Looking around the net quick looks to be 2500 and 3200lbs.

Dont want electric, and dont really care for cable. My current winch is fine, its just 15 years old, and the mechanism is loose, and really do not trust it anymore.

Would 2500lbs be fine? ANy ideas

I would assume it would work, it's not like it's pulling the boat dry, it's usually very buoyant when getting winched.

You said it was fine but loose. Find the bad pivots/holes and put a bushing in them. If you're feeling snazzy use bearing bronze.

Voila, like new or better operation.

i see what you are saying. yeah I think the whole mechanism is loose, needs new springs the finger that locks into the wheel with the teeth is worn. So its an old winch so finding parts for the orignal would be out the window, could probably make some others work. But by the time i found parts took it apart put back together probably would out weigh getting a new one.

Ok well did some searching and found a 2800lb winch on E- Trailer. Found it cheaper at another site but etrailer price matches by 110% so actually got the winch for 96 bucks or so plus shipping, only 20 bucks more than the 2500lb winch. Good to go.

They make these new plastic pieces that screw down to the bunks. You can get them in one length shots or small pieces and just space them apart. Anyhow I highly recommend these for you trailer. The boat will load 20 times easier and unload just as easy. When I first tried mine after putting these on. I almost ran up in the back on my truck the boat slid thru the bunks so easy. Certainly no need for an electric wench for sure after you put these on. I had bought a brand new electric wench at the sometime I bought the pieces I'm talking about and traded it on this site for a heads up trim display.

Soldier, not sure why you don't want to move up to an electric wench. I launch my 29' twin solo and it is really nice to be in the truck with the wireless remote backing up slowly as I reel in the boat with the power wench. If you change your mind I can give you model info. It's rated at 7500# with the included pulley.
