I just bought a 1995 stepped 42 with new side by side HP 500s and boxes that are up 3 inches, the boat did not come with props and the owner knew nothing of high-performance boating at all, what do you guys think I should start with four props??
Has anyone ever had a similar set up and if so how fast did the boat run in with what props?

boat should run low to mid 70's with HP 500's , you may need 5 blades if your x-dim is up 3" from stock height, most stag 42's with hp 500's had 26' hydro or 28 Bravo 1 4 blades, that would be a good place to start, good luck

Thanks guys!!!!! The boat is a side by side, my plans are to add a pair of 8-71's or 3.3 carbed whipples at some point if I can find some and set them up to make 700-750.

Being on boxes your drives wont feel like they are raised 3 inches. Mine are on boxes w/ 2 inch shorties which equals out to around a 1/2 inch above factory depth. You'll prolly be to deep for 5 blades.
