I have towed with a diesel one. I'm sure the power will be there but from my experience they are alittle short at times when you have a long trailer behind them.

That's a lot of boat for that truck. What's the gross trailer weight. Gross tongue weight values on the truck. Also motor is only one piece of the puzzle. You got braking to consider. My grandpa always told me. Rest in peace. Most important part of a vehicle are the brakes

If your load exceeds the trucks weight rating , it leaves you open to possible problems with insurance and DOT

I would say 10,000 lb set up boat and trailer, triple axle trailer, elec of hydraulic brakes. I towed it back from Chicago with a F350 crew cab srw lwb 7.3 that truck did fine but is gone. looking at the excursions.

id say that 350 diesl is a differant animal / comparisom . truck ratings on towing are there for guidlines on truck capabilities , id start there ... any basic online search can render youre values on the truck in question .

My F250 diesel tows my 42 like its not back there until I have to stop. It is a little lite for the boat. If you are towing short runs to the ramp and home it will do the job, just be cautious of sudden stops. I personally feel much better with my old 95 f350 dually for anything out of town. Your excursion is heavier than the f series with the same brakes. Once again it will do the job just make sure your trailer brakes are up to the job. Just my .02

I towed a 353 with a diesel 7.3 Excursion. Fully loaded trailer boat were close to 12k. I installed airbags, extra rear leaf, and Hellwig sway bar, upgraded rotors and pads. Did ok around town but on the highway the short wheelbase of the Excursion showed at 65mph and up. With a 38 Fountain I would guess results would be near the same and a 42 is really going to have the tail wagging the dog. Also when pulling the boat out of the water I had to use low 4x4 and it would walk right up. In high 2x4 it really stressed the trans and engine pulling up the ramp. The V10s that I have rode in just do not seem to have the low end grunt as the diesels.

It will be ok on the straights but will struggle on the hills. I towed my 29 with one and the hills or grades it showed. Around town was great. I have electric over hydraulic on my trailer and it stopped great behind the v10
