Hello Pure Power;
Go with the 35 Exe. equipped with 496 HO's the boat will cost $149,995.00. When you are ready to trade, the 35 Exe. it should retain a decent value as a trade for a new 38 or 42 lightning.

Good point Candyman. The boat I bought before my 35 classic was a brand new Checkmate 270 mid-cabin bow rider. I paid the dealer $78K for it in the spring of 2001 and could only get $53K for it in the fall of 2002. And that thing was in mint condition.
The 35 classic that I sold the Checkmate to buy was three years old but it was as good as new imo. It only had about 40 hours on it and was clean as a whistle. I paid about 60K less for it than if I had gone out and bought the same boat new from a dealer.
If you are willing to be patient there are plenty of quality used boats out there that have already taken the hit on first year depreciation. With stock Mercury power on these HP 500's and 525's being good for 500 or more hours, it's just going to be hard for me to justify paying up for a brand new one. Of course, there's something special about owning a brand new boat, and once in a while you can find a dealer who's hurting and willing to give one away, but for the most part, I'm looking at used 38's and 42's.

I'd move up to the 42. A lot more room in the cabin and engine compartment. You can also find 42's with AC if you ever stay overnight on it. The boat handles better, too. Also more bragging rights! My 42 handled better than my 47 does.

I would also move to a 42. I've had my 93 35 for 7 yrs and 38 just doesn't seem like much more too me. My next boat will be a 42 or cat. And of course new is the way to go...but I can't justify taking that first hit when there are alot of very well cared for Fountains out there.
