Great article Ron P.
Hey Ron..
I guess the Mailman finally finished reading me Extreme Boating Mag. so he brought it on Fri.
Your article on "Insuring our future" was Dead on target!! Great Job!! I'm glad to see the dialog between the Insurance Company's and the Boating manufactures. Hopefully this will open some Eyes and Ears of the Boating Public, and let us work together to provide viable solutions for the soaring premiums!!!
E.B just keeps getting Better and Better!!!
one problem though,,Mama saw the Pic of "Norty" and thinks he's Cute. WTF??,, I made an appointment with the Ophthalmologist for Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keep up the GOOD WORK!!

Hey Ron,
Great article.
I have always wondered why the people putting on a poker run don't require PFDs. I run in at least one poker run each season and quite frankly I'm running faster in my Scarab than I do in our race boat "Sonic Boom" and I'm not in the fastest boat in the crowd!
In poker runs & other fun runs, what you see is loads of people, no PFDs, hootin & hollering.....a disaster waiting to happen!!
I enjoy the excitment as much as anyone, you always end up playing cat & mouse with other boats that run similar speeds to yours. It is racing in manner of speaking! We as a group need to treat these machines & the waters with more respect!
Whenever I run a boat, I use the kill lanyard & insist on PFDs for everyone on board. You never know when something unexpected is going to happen! When your running at 70 0r 80 or 90+ mph, things happen in a flash!
" OH WAIT A MINUTE WHILE I GO BELOW AND GET EVERYONE THEIR LIFE JACKET"....as everyone is tossed overboard!!!
Insurance costs will come down when people aren't having STUPID & AVOIDABLE accidents!! When boating safety and navigation courses become mandatory! I'm all for it!
We as a boating community better get our act together.

I'm glad to see that the article got that kind of reaction.
Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully some people will read the article and take a safe boating course, or even further actions toward safer boating.

I can assure you that doesn't happen with the NJPPC Poker Runs. If it does, then the people face severe consequences.
The NJPPC has 10 basic guidelines which are enforced at each event:
(1) Absolutely no alcoholic beverages until the Poker Run is OVER.
(2) All participating poker run boat occupants must wear PFD's
(3) Driver must wear ignition safety switch lanyard(s) while the boat is underway
(4) No sitting on top of the seats or on sunpads when the boat is on plane
(5) Break starts up into groups based on speed
(6) Medical/rescue personnel onboard at least one boat in every group
(7) No passing the paceboat
(8) Minimum separation of 100' fore-and-aft and 50' side-to-side between boats when on plane
(9) Written instructions/charts handed out by organizer with appropriate speed limit and safety notations.
(10)Strict speed limits in congested areas.
As you can see, #2 everyone must have a PFD on during the events.
I just wanted to make sure there was no mistake that all poker runs are the same.....
