No, we bought it up in the Carolinas from a couple of brothers who purchased it from a guy in California.

The 1979 38' Bertram "FlapJack" #45, raced and owned by the late Howard Quam, was sold at the end of the 1979 season to Ted Tolman of Tolman Group in England. I never saw or heard of her again.
The former "Copper Kettle", owned and raced by Sandy Satullo, was sold to Paul Clauser and raced as "Satisfaction" in 1979. In 1980 Howard Quam bought it from Paul and raced it as "FlapJack". In the May 1980 race out of Miami the boat spun out and the throttleman that replaced me was killed tragically before he was air-lifted out of the boat. That was Smiley Johns from St. Petersburg, FL.
Today "Dirty Laundry", Joe Mach's big CUV cat, is proudly sitting on its trailer at Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale on display for the Land and Sea Poker Run sponsored by the Florida Powerboat Club.

Smily Johns
That is correct....... I remember that day.. I think Bill Elzwick won that race and gave the prize money to his widow at the awards party. I remember it well . It will always stick in my mind. Was a sad day in racing history. And was a great gesture from Billy.

If this "Dyno-Mite" boat is a red and white 38' Bertram, then it is the former race boat sponsored by WD-40. She was owned by a guy from Long Island when she was stolen and stripped. She was then recovered and sent down to me in Ft. Lauderdale where it was re-rigged as a pleasure boat with a partial cabin. I remember because I hated the name he picked from the old "Good Times" TV show.
