Are you aware of the fact that you can't buy an OEM 496 engine package with an HP Transom assembly?

Brian, good luck on your quest. Sure are lucky you didn't drop the drive.

Thers a couple of good brands to sell. Sydwayz might have been better off to have dropped the drive. Atleast then it would have looked like he hit something!

Good luck Dude!

Just remember, Gordon Sucks.

.
That would make for a hole that allowed water in faster than any bilge pump could pump out.

True! Just hope he would have been wearing socks instead of sandles.

Thanks everyone. I was in Chicago until late last night, and just had a chance to catch up. Joe and APM have been extremely helpful. As Joe eluded to, everything indicates product failure. As for Joe's typing. He is a dedicated mechanic, and keeps slipping off the keys due to grease on his fingers.

APM did not sell me the boat. I bought it 1 year used from another respected OSO member, ToddW. I bought the boat still under factory warranty, and purchased the extended warranty from another OSO member whom has since sold his marina, which also cost me quite a few shiny pennies. I did break the upper gear set on this drive almost exactly 1 year ago, which was the last time both drives were off and gone through, and alignment checked by the best of the best.

I have been trying everything I know with Mercury. I have another friend trying to see what they can come up with as well. I can ASSURE you, I did not spin the boat. ( I still have 2 skegs on the boat; remember the skeg monster that caused so many spins in the past? ) I can assure you I did not launch the boat. The water was less than 18" chop at its worst that day. I drove literally 20 miles in one direction without turning the wheel more than a few degrees until I did begin a slight turn to port to the marina where my trailer was parked. That helps explain the SB side trim ram bent to Port, and the bind of the drive resulting in the SB side of the wearpad being missing. I had a passenger with me (who was not TheBoopGal, so I can assure you 100% of my attention was on driving) who can back all up those details, and I hold a gov't security clearance position with a paramount on integrity and honesty, so I can assure that is not an issue either. In other words, if I had eff'd it up, I would own up to it.

In My experience with Merc. My dealer will call merc and explain the situation. My guy is been doing it long enough and they respect his opinion. Say a drive ... They will send a new drive .... he replaces the drive and sends the old one back to merc and here's the catch ... THEN they decide if they will will charge you or not .....your kinda at their mercy .... I guess if you could get a district Rep to ok it before hand would be the best way to go ....
