I hate it but the Yamahas and Tohatsus are great motors. I lived in south Louisiana 8 years and you NEVER saw a Mercury on a commercial boat. Hondas just came on the scene in force but for boats run every day in very harsh conditions it was all Yamahas and Tohatsus.
Crawfish and Crab boats mostly that run the sh!t out of them through mud ,sand, weeds etc.
Yamaha builds the 4stroke Mercs already except the Verado. The very small motors have been built by Tohatsu for a while now.
Racing is a different story. We all know Merc has the race market cornered.

The Chinese built Mercs are for the US market. Fon du Lac,WI production of the 40/50/60 4-strokes will cease as China production ramps up.I got the letter from Merc last week explaining it.
