Off again, On again: Ft Lauderdale rescheduled for next week
By IBI Magazine/Michael Verdon
Organisers of the Ft Lauderdale International Boat Show announced today that the show would be held next week, Thursday, November 3 through Sunday November 6. This follows yesterday afternoon's announcement that the show would be postponed "indefinitely."
Kaye Pearson, president of Show Management, which oversees the event, told IBI that his group will "have facilities for everyone who wants to participate in the show."
Pearson said that the only facilities that would not be available were slips at Pier 66, which would accommodate about 100 boats. "We will try to get them to other parts of the show," he said. "But they won't all be there since some boats were damaged."
Pier 66 will be used for boats not in the show that have to be exited from safe harbour from Ft Lauderdale's New River in order for the boats in the show to have access to the show's staging areas.
Pearson told IBI that Show Management will have enough generators to power the show, and that other available marina facilities would be "up and running." Some South Florida residents are reporting restoration of electricity, though much of Ft Lauderdale remains without power.
Another question remains concerning the availability of the Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. It is currently booked by another trade group, but Pearson said he is working on gaining access for the boat show. Also, it's unclear how many hotels will reopen for business by next Thursday, though Ft Lauderdale officials are confident that water will be restored by then.
"I don't have time to go into details now," he said. "But we are going to open the show next Thursday and are sending notices out to all of our exhibitors today and tomorrow."

DJD, many people's spirits need lifting right. I can't believe you haven't already offered this, so I will.
To help everyone get back on their feer, DJD and Waterspeed will come out of retirement to throw a "FLASHBACK TO THE GOOD OLE DAYS - WILDCHILD WET-T SHIRT CONTEST & PARTY". It promises to be a rip roaring, wet, wild, wicked and nauti good time with plenty of boat drinks and beautifiul people in attendance. All proceeds raised during the event will go to
BUYING MORE DRINKS!!!
