Vyper,

One thing you may have not been considering... When I bought my Advantage 32 with 496 H.O.s recently, they offered a 5 year mercruiser extended warranty on the motor and drives at $2,800 per. So if you are worried about 496 H.O. reliability... actually forget that... no matter what you are thinking, get the 5 year extended warranty.. Period. Beat the heck out of your setup and in 2-3 years Whipple it. I mean, if you use your boat alot, $5,600 for 5 years is a no brainer, even if you decide to throw away part of the extended warranty later on to whipple it. --- John

P.S. Warranty is also transferable if you wanted to sell it later on down the line and say the buyer was afraid of reliability of the early motors... could easily make the difference in being able to sell it.

Vyper - no the 496 whipple is not ready yet. I'm on Dustin's call list, but I won't add unitl they have been out at least a year.

I understand that pro-charger has one now.

yes- gjockey I too, purchased the extendeds, so other than possible downtime, I'm covered my first 500 hours

The average is 8-10 mph.from 496 ho,s to hp 500efis.Velocity vr1 496 ho 71-73mph.Hp500 efis 80-84 same with baja/foutain ext.I talked to the test drivers from the merc.test plant and thay did not like the 496 ho.The 502 efi 415 hp was faster in the same boat.Go with the 500s I love mine.

Yeah, more like what I meant was, he needs significant dyno/bench time. I'm sure he wouldn't release to the market without some kind of reasonable warranty.
