Re: Save the Old Race Boats
DA later admitted that he owed the credit to JC, Winn, Brownie and others. The 28 did not become the 33... The 28 has straight entry... the 33 has convex entry.... thus setting the stage for all cigarettes which have convex entry. Also, the 28 had a round keel that would have been hard to change because of its relationship to the rocker scheme at the aft 10' by the way, the 28' Magnum/ Donzi is where the 24-31 sonics came from.... The 33' and above were.... JC Simone.

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
Sorry MidOcean but Magnum 28' and Cary 32' have the same convex entry. Look the pictures that I posted above so for explain.
Then I posted a extract from a declaration of Aronow in the '70. Maybe I made a bad translation.
He said that the 32'(you say 33') came directly from him previous Magnum(Maltese Magnum was the name that Aronow gave to him race boats in 1967)28'.
Probably the Aronow's designs had the influence of others boat designers but the name of the franchman Jean Claude Simon came off in the offshore racing in 1974.
Others news are only rumors I think.

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
The boat I am referring to that has a straight DR entry and not a convex is the Donzi 28... also sold by Magnum as thier 28... The Maltese came after... as well as the starfire... both of which did have convex entries... It was this Donzi/ Magnum that the sonics came from... The inventer/ designer of the origninal convex was Richard Bertram.

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
I have some relatives in USA-Florida but I never been in contact with them.
The "Maltese Magnum" was a famous name of some race boat Magnum 28' in 1967-68,not a type. With them Aronow won the World Championship in 1967.
Maltese or Starfire 27' was another story where Aronow don't got to do with them.
Dick Bertram was the real Grandfather of Offshore races.

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
DA told me himself that the Maltese was the model name for the 28 high deck... Anyway... I remember racing at Holiday Isle in '79 and there were "welcome" signs made on the side of the road for "black tornado". Marv Marter said that relatives of the Black Tornado crew lived there in Plantation Key. The only reason I mentioned it was that I grew up about 2 miles from there.

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
Mid Ocean , your stories are priceless.
You either no nothing or are simply attempting to provide us with some great "comic relief" over this long week-end.
Either way, keep posting.
