windshield crazing in 35 fountain lightning
my 2000 fountain lightning has developed harline cracks. i cannot think of the cause . does anyone konw of this problem. any correction beside new windshield

Couple friends here on the lake with those have replaced their windshield after those cracks have appeared.
If I recall it was somewhat expensive. One of them had his windshield break while out during a somewhat rough Poker Run here last year.

One of the main reason is the use of cleaners that have amonia, such as Windex.

The crazing is caused by any cleaner that has a solvent in it - like alocohol or an aggressive surfactant - like a betaine or high levels of others and even repeated high pH on polycarbonates will do it. Once it happens, you can't fix - just replace it. The crazing is in internal void. Only use water to clean them and it will never happen. BTW it's not unique to fountains..

it's not the ammonia - I developed the windex formulations - it's what I do for a livin'... there is only enough in there to claim it has ammonia because people believe it does something.
