Default Cheapest State !

Cheapest state to buy register boat? I think it's SC but EL CHEAPO (thats me) would like to know cheapest state to not pay the MAN! SC Sales Tax caps at $300 bucks and then 1.5 years later you pay personal property tax on its current value (not what u paid) I was told is about 1.5%

Got a state thats cheaper (EL CHEAPO) wants to know!

Delaware is high on the lists....

I formed a corp in DL that owns the boat (cost $300-400 first year, around $150 per year after in total expenses) No personal property tax, no sales/use tax. Sticker cost $35.00/yr.

When I was buying and re-selling boats this was by far the best setup for me.

fl pay for your yearly sticker, mine was 81.00 for a 35 footer, and 6% sales tax at time of purchase (stated purchase price but be reasonable )

Arkansas may rank up there too.

If you purchase the boat used there is no sales tax. I purchased mine out of state and didn't pay a dime when I got it here. My tag was somewhere in the area of $50 or so. This is a three year tag that includes the trailer too. The majority of the money for the tag is for the trailer tag. Boat use is something like $7 a year or so.

There is an annual personal property tax to pay on the current value of the boat.
