Ya im sure it gets hit pretty regular and by some monster storms ..But I just cant believe the prices on some of the ocean/canal front properties. Whats the local economy like, culture, boating etc.. These NE winters are getting long

I saw some travel channel home search stuff on Galveston too. Canal front homes 185K - 250 K and they would have been 400K at LOTO. Seems very reasonable but why????????

It depends where on galveston island, a nice lot will cost you 150k +.

The main reason its so cheap is the water, its the color of choclate milk. Also west galveston bay is very shallow, dont even think about an I/O.

I have had a house in pirates beach pretty much my whole adult life.

Schliterbaum sp is going to open this april that will add another place to visit.

The problem with Galveston is the water color as Yahoo has said... then the area where all the boat action is happening is atleast 45min away by water.... you may want to look into the Clear Lake, or Seabrook area... I like living here in Galveston my wife and I have been here since 1999, but we go to Clear Lake for most of our boating needs... there are 3 local offshore type boat clubs, and they all have thier polotics, but are fun.

www.boatersclub.org

www.texaspowerboatassoc.com

The local airport is going international, there is Moody gardens rainforest and aquarium (my wife and I have passes), the lone star flight museum, and a Schliterbahn indoor/outdoor waterpark.... there is a lot to do here, the problem in the acutal city is that on one block you have historic mansions and the nex is the ghetto and you really have to go look at the property.... There is a new marina subdivision going up if you are interested I can get you more info I know a few of the builders.

Ernie

here is a link to a few of my pictures and some local boats to see you competition in this area.. you can also probably see the water non-clarity

The Gulf looks the same way along the coast. You go offshore and it gets better.
