The measure limits or bans houseboats, high-speed cigarette boats and pontoon boats, and boats longer than 30.5 feet. It applies to Weiss Lake in Cherokee County; Lake Martin in Coosa, Elmore and Tallapoosa counties; and Lake Harris, also known as Lake Wedowee, in Randolph County.
I guess I won't be boating in East Alabama!

MAN that is the most backwards law that I have ever seen!!! I can not believe that they are going to pass that. Kick the boaters off so that the land owners can profit. How insane and frankly unamerican!! Man that makes what we just went through in NH look normal. I can see the HB 162 supporters seeing this and trying it next

The head of the marine police said the law is unenforcable. A 271 Formula is 2" over the limiit and runs about 65 mph. If I say it runs 59,how do they prove otherwise? One of the fastest boats on Martin is a 24' HTM at about 120 mph,but it can stay! Heard comments that the law might be unconstitutional under the 'eqal protection' clause of the constitution.Maybe our board lawyer friends will comment.

Damn, that's just a stupid, senseless law. I can't believe it passed, because it sure doesn't pass the common sense test. And what's the point anyway? What prompted this unfounded move?

Re: Alabama Boat Ban Bill-WE LOST!
Corparate greed.Alabama Power and a couple of wealthy land developers are trying to entice a Georgia company to build a couple of expensive developments, hotel, golf couses, etc and they won't come unless they get rid of the "undesirable" boats. Most of the land around 2 of the lakes is owned by the power co. and the developers. All 11 power co lakes, including mine, were originally included but we got 8 lakes removed. Word is next year they will come after other lakes. They spent well over 1/2 million on lobbyists

Robert --- thanks for all the time you put forth fighting this bill----
Now- the state is going to have to defend this mess---
Alot of "cigarette boats" involved---- didn't know a cigarette boat was any boat over 26" 11" that is capable of 60mph.
its unfortunate----- they used safety as an excuse----
24' cat 130MPH LEGAL
38' Sonic 70mph DANGEROUS ILLEGAL
Talk soon

Good luck in your continued efforts to get this decision repealed.
YOU are the American here, fighting for freedoms, not those who were bought.
